Severn Arms Hotel
Penybont, Llandrindod Wells, Powys. LD1 5UA
There has been a village at Penybont, or Pont-y-cleifon as it was originally called, since medieval times, when it served the fortification of Castle Cefn Llys, and presumably the village always had an ale house or pub.
We know that the village inn was located on the west side of the bridge over the River Ithon and that it had been called Fleece or the New Inn until 1814 when its name changed to the Severn Arms.
In About 1840 the inn was moved from its site west of the river to the present position, where it was reconstructed in its pleasing late-Georgian Style.

This photograph dates from around 1920.

This photograph dates from April 2007 and shows how the face of the building is unchanged.
